AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts has declared that at least 56 museums, historic buildings and cultural sites across the country were damaged following US-Israeli military attacks, describing the move as a crime against Iran’s historical identity and humanity’s shared heritage.
The ministry strongly condemned attacks by the criminal US and Israeli regimes on cultural and historical landmarks in Tehran and several provinces.
According to the statement, Tehran province recorded the highest number of damaged sites, with 19 locations affected. The ministry named Golestan Palace, the historic Tehran Bazaar, Marble Palace, Sepahsalar Mosque and several historic government buildings among the sites that sustained damage.
The ministry said historic locations were also affected in Isfahan, Kurdistan, Lorestan, Kermanshah, Bushehr and Ilam provinces, including parts of Naqsh-e Jahan Square in Isfahan, a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as museums and historic complexes in Sanandaj, Khorramabad and Siraf cities.
The statement cited international legal frameworks, including the 1954 Hague Convention and UN Security Council Resolution 2347, which classify attacks on cultural heritage as violations of international law.
The ministry said it has formally raised the issue with international bodies such as UNESCO and the United Nations, and announced plans to assess the damage and launch emergency restoration projects once conditions allow.
